Hills, forests and dams – that is far from being all that the Märkisch-Sauerland region, the home of OBTEC, has to offer. Over centuries, metalworking and a specialisation in tool construction have developed here.
Even in the Middle Ages, the collection of iron ore and its further processing into worked parts and wire were of strategic importance. This is because all the key elements, such as wood for the smithy's fire and water power to drive the hammers, were available in the Sauerland.
During the process of industrialisation, this was the basis for a unique range of metalworking industries to develop in a small area. For this reason, the area of southern Westphalia is marked by the need for only extremely short distances to reach specialists – from tool construction, through hardening to surface coating.
